BEFORE THE CONSULTATION
BEFORE THE CONSULTATION
If you are here, it's because you have lost a significant amount of weight. Consequently, you are noticing some considerable skin excess in various areas of your body.
Post-obesity plastic surgery is one of those procedures that require fairly long intraoperative time and very often more than one surgical sessions. In this initial stage, try to establish a priority list of what you want to address first.
THE CONSULTATION
THE CONSULTATION
After listening to you in detail I will tell you what can be corrected and to what extent.
You will then know where and how the resulting scars are going to be positioned.
Usually, the quality of the skin is not exceptional once a lot of weight has been lost. Therefore, even after removing the important skin excess, there will always be a certain skin laxity.
BEFORE THE PROCEDURE
BEFORE THE PROCEDURE
It's time to undergo blood tests and an electrocardiogram. I might also ask you for an ultrasound of the abdominal wall. Sometimes a Chest X-ray.
You will have a precise idea of how much skin will be removed on the day of your operation, during the preoperative marking.
THE SURGERY
THE SURGERY
In this section, we can talk about Brachioplasty, where a skin excess from the inner part of the arm is removed Then there's Thigh Lift, which corrects those excesses in the inner thigh region. And finally, the Buttock Lift, involving the removal of any skin excess in the upper part of the gluteal region, where the scar often joins the abdominoplasty one. These two procedures together are termed Circumferential Lift or Body Lift.
I won't go into details here for the other three “typical”post-obesity cosmetic surgeries: Mastopexy, Abdominoplasty, and Facelift. You can find them in their respective sections. The duration of each procedure is around 2-3 hours. Sometimes more than one is performed in the same surgical session, extending importantly the total surgical time.
AFTER THE PROCEDURE
AFTER THE PROCEDURE
Immediate and progressively increasing mobility in the days following your return home should be by far your primary focus.
You will need at least two weeks of “active” rest at home, even if you have an office job. The resumption of sports activities will be gradual and will start about 8 weeks after surgery.
